Understanding Your Home’s Plumbing

You want to have a good understanding of your entire plumbing system. This is going to allow you to know what is normal to expect from the system, what you can take care of on your own and what you should be calling a plumbing leak detection and repair company out to take care of for you. Here are the basics of plumbing for your home.

You have a main water source

You have a main water source that brings the water into your home. Unless you have a well, this water will be monitored and diverted to your home from your local water company. Pipes take the water through the home to all the different areas where you need water, such as the kitchen, the bathrooms, the laundry room, the garden hose spigots and the water heater. Normally, if you have a small problem with one of the appliances, then you will turn off the water switch closest to that appliance. However, if you have a huge water problem, like a pipe that has busted, then you are going to want to turn the water off at the main water source.

You have sewer lines

You have sewer lines that lead the sewer water away from your house when you flush the toilets or when the loads of laundry are finished, as well as when the sink water goes down the drains. You can tell when there is a sewer issue because you may start to smell sewer odors coming up from your drains, or the drains may back up on you. When this happens, you need to have a plumber come out to tend to the problem. They have lines with cameras on them, so they can find even the most hidden issue that is happening in the lines.

There are simple issues

There are often simple issues that can go on with the house that you may be able to fix yourself, or you can have a plumber take care of if you don't feel up to taking on the tasks. Small clogs, leaking faucets, and worn out gaskets are a few of the examples of things that you may have the know-how, tools and ability to tend to on your own. However, if you don't feel you are up to the task, then a plumber will be more than capable to come out and help you with these plumbing issues.
